Members of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints, (Mormons) Kenya Mombasa District, turned out in large numbers to take part in the Mormon Helping Hands organized in Changamwe, where the church has a congregation. Many community leaders joined in this day of service. Latter-day Saints during the year organize service projects which help communities understand they are emulating the life of Jesus Christ by serving others.

The cleaning exercise on Chaani road brought together members of the Church, the government and the community including the known Banjuka organization which does different activities to empower women and youth in Changamwe.
Speaking on behalf of the Mombasa District Presidency, 1st counselor Benard Mwambere, thanked members for their continuous commitment to serve when called upon. His words were echoed by the District Director for Public Pffairs Jack Oricho who thanked the District Public Affairs Council for sparing time to organize the activity which he termed a success.
Area Chief Mr. Ben Valasar thanked the members of the church for their commitment to serve the community. “Your service to us is unique. We have many churches and I haven’t seen any other church show that commitment of service as you have. I have attended many activities that you have organized in the previous years.” Mr Valasar encouraged the church to continue with such activities saying as the government, they are in support. He summed up his speech with a message from the assistant county commissioner, “The assistant commissioner told me to say hello, and thank you for the invitation.”
On their part the Banjuka organization’s chairlady Sera Mnyazi Taura said they are grateful for an opportunity to serve the community together with members of the Church. “We are happy and we hope you invite us again. A clean environment is very important and we encourage others to join hands.”
The area Member of Parliament Hon. Omar Mwinyi commented as he visited the project to thank members for the exemplary service, “I promise to join you next time when you have another activity.”
In the continent of Africa, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organizes “Mormon Helping Hands” many times every year where members of the Church and the community can come together to serve fellow human beings and emulate Jesus Christ’s love and service for all mankind.
